The study of the sites ad monuments, including historical, architectural and morphological documentation is under DAAM’s competence. The Direction studies and performs works of protection, support, conservation and restoration of monuments. DAAM also controls and proposes the approval of important studies done by other peripheral services of the Ministry or by other entities or privates. It also assigns studies and works to third parties, according to the current legislation. Finally, DAAM proposes relevant matters to the Central Archaeological Council. As the service in charge of conservation, DAAM often undertakes or supervises works that will benefit directly from the expertise and results of the STONECORE project.
DAAM-of Culture is interested in all improved technologies for a non-destructive in-situ assessment of the construction material conditions of ancient monuments, the identification of their geometrical and physical characteristics, nature and deterioration, focusing especially on marble and limestone. Furthermore, it is interested in all actions leading in the improvement of the mechanical characteristic of the native construction material of ancient monuments and in all non-destructive assessment methods to determine the areas, the extend, size and type of restoration actions in the civil engineering sector, to be applied on an ancient monument of prehistoric building. DAAM-of-Culture will organize and coordinate all restoration activities in the Greek proposed ARCHAEOLOGICAL sites and MONUMENTS. |
