GEOTRON, originally founded as GEOTRON-ELEKTRONIK by Günter Krompholz, is today an entity specialised in the production of ultrasonic measurement devices for non destructive strength determination of concrete and natural stone. Based on experiences of more than 40 years complete measurement systems including highly sophisticated software are pro-
duced in house. The product spectrum is completed by sensors and related accessories.
A second product line concerns drilling resistance devices. These are sold under the brand name TERSIS. It is the newest product of GEOTRON, development was finished in 2005. At that time it is the most sophisticated device available in the market.
The first ultrasonic measurement devices for characterisation of stone and concrete were produced in 1964, since that time this is the main business of GEOTRON.
Since May 1988 Rolf Krompholz is CEO of GEOTRON. He has created many new contacts and research cooperations with universities and scientific research organisations dealing with stone conservation as well as concrete characterisation.
The measurement devices of GEOTRON are in accordance with the following standards:
EN 12504-4: 2004 and EN 14579:2004: Determination of the ultrasonic speed of the longitudinal wave EN 14146:2004; Determination of the dynamic modulus of elasticity DIN 1048:1991, prEN13791: 2003; Evaluation of the pressure strength of concrete.
The developed measurement devices and techniques are protected by the following patents:
DE 42 33 958: „Verfahren zur Gefüge-Zustandsermittlung von Gestein“ DE 196 29 485: „Verfahren und Vorrichtung zur Bestimmung der Druckfestigkeit von Beton während dessen Erhärtung mittels Ultraschall-Geschwindigkeitsmessung“
GEOTRON-ELEKTRONIK is owner of the trade names „CONSONIC’ and GEOTRON’. The head office of GEOTRON is the city of Pirna. The research laboratory contains complete equipment for the development of ultrasonic and drilling resistance measurements. GEOTRON is a SME with four employees.
