The Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, v.v.i. has been supported since 2000 as a European Centre of Excellence ARCCHIP (Advanced Research Centre for Cultural Heritage Interdisciplinary Projects) under 5th EC FP. The research is focused on problems related mostly to civil and structural engineering with a strong attention to historic materials, structures and cities. Appropriately equipped laboratories and test sites are available together with developed database system on historic materials, structures and their damages.
